Special Collections (University of Antwerp Library)

The University of Antwerp Library is not only a modern, academic library, the institution is also a heritage library with a generous volume of valuable and historical collections.

As Erkende Erfgoedbibliotheek (Acknowledged Heritage Library) the University Library has a quadruple mission: to acquire new materials in the heritage collection, to maintain and conserve the collection, to stimulate research into the collection and to present the collection to the general public. The Special Collections department consists of various sub-collections, i.e. old and rare books, manuscripts, prints and drawings, and archival objects.

Its top item is known as shelfmark MAG-P 13.1522 and consists of a collection of play programs (both in manuscript and in print) in quarto. In the autumn of 2014 the Flemish Government decided to adopt this item in the Top Items List.

The information on object from the Special Collections department in this online exhibition were written by Lieselot Cornelis.
